NYC in the snow.

flatiron.jpg

As a blizzard ripped into New York City this past weekend, street photographer Michele Palazzo went out and began wandering around to see if he could spot any people on the sidewalks. The streets were barren, but Palazzo did manage to shoot this beautiful shot of the Flatiron Building early Saturday morning using his trusty little Ricoh GR.

“I was impressed by the wind and the snow swirling around my favorite building in the city, so I took some shots,” Palazzo tells PetaPixel. “This shot was perfect.” The image, which was slightly tweaked in VSCO Cam, is now getting attention on the Web for how much itresembles an impressionist painting from the 19th century.

Le Sacré du Printemps.

The New York Philharmonic on Wednesday named the Dutch conductor Jaap van Zweden as its next music director, choosing a violinist known for his mastery of classic fare.

The 55-year-old, who now leads the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, will take the helm of the most prestigious North American orchestra starting with the 2018-19 season.

Van Zweden said it took him “one minute” to decide to accept the offer and described New York as the “center of the world” for music.

Hudson Mohawke - Indian Steps (feat. Antony)

Taken from Hudson Mohawke’s recent Lantern LP, Indian Steps is a beautifully emotive track featuring haunting vocals from the inimitable Antony Hegarty. With German director Daniel Sannwald behind the unexpected visuals, inspiration came from Rodin’s The Kiss. “For the video I recreate that sculpture with two elderly bodies,” explains Daniel. “It was very touching and moving to see two aging bodies in such an intimate way. I wanted to use them as a symbol of time but also to capture the beauty of such vulnerability.” Explore a mysterious landscape of skin and bones as Anthony’s vocals wash over you, tracing lines of experience and memories in gold. The poetic lyrics tell of a relationship ending; the break of a special bond when so much love remains. “I strongly believe that every deep love has its own place and space and therefore lives on forever,” continues the director. May we all find our own eternal safe place in this stunning collaboration.
