A self-confessed operetta fan, Christian Thielemann conducts The Gipsy Princess (Die Csárdásfürstin), a true 20th century masterpiece by the Hungarian composer Emmerich Kálmán. Christian Thielemann has been the principal conductor of the Staatskapelle Dresden since 2011, but has also been serving as the Artistic Director of the Salzburg Easter Festival since 2013, the same year in which the Staatskapelle became the festival’s resident orchestra. In 2011, he was elected "Conductor of the Year" by Opernweltmagazine, and he is widely considered one of the most talented conductors on the musical scene.
In 2014 for their New Year's Eve Concert, the Staatskapelle Dresden invited two of the most popular singers of our days: the Russian soprano Anna Netrebko and the Peruvian tenor Juan Diego Flórez, who have both appeared in the greatest opera houses. A multi-award winner (she received 6 Echo-Klassik awards!), Anna Netrebko will sing the part of Sylva Varescu, while Flórez (notably known for being the first tenor since 1933 to be allowed to sing an encore at La Scala when he reprised "Ah mes amis quel jour de fête !" from La Fille du Régiment) will sing the role of Edwin Ronald von und zu Lippert Weylersheim.
